The BC Federation of Labour (BCFED) and SHARE are joining to present the BC Pension Forum, which includes a pre-forum event, Pension Boot Camp.
The forum is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 24 at the Pinnacle Hotel Harbourfront in Vancouver, with pre-forum events, like the Boot Camp, planned for the 23rd, as is Trustee Master Class: Embedding Responsible Investment in Pension Fund Governance and Across Asset Classes.
The forum promises to be “two days of education, debate and networking on pension funds and investment,” say the organizers, with the Boot Camp designed for tomorrow’s trustees and union pension champions, presenting “expert-led presentations.
“Tailored to the beginner, topics will include an introduction to the Canadian retirement system, pension law, understanding the role of the actuary, and investment basics.”
The Trustee Master Class event provides “experienced trustees with the opportunity to explore strategies for embedding responsible investment into pension fund governance and across asset classes in an interactive and hands-on learning setting,” say the organizers.
Also planned for the 23rd is the SFU Public Event: Shared Prosperity: The Role of Investors in Addressing Inequality. The venue for this event is Simon Fraser University’s Segal Graduate School, from 6-9 p.m.
The forum continues on the 24th, dealing with low interest rates, volatile markets, declining private sector pension coverage and pressure on plan funding.
“The BC Pension Forum creates an opportunity for education, debate and networking that will examine current and emerging trends, issues and challenges facing occupational pension funds. The program will feature keynotes, panels and breakout sessions.”
